Under the direction of the Civil Division Courts Sergeant, the Court Security Officer is responsible for maintaining the security of designated county buildings by monitoring the conduct of the public and detainees. This position is covered as defined by the Board of Commissioners of the County of Allen Employee Handbook.

The Court Security Officer performs various tasks that require understanding and the ability to make practical application when enforcing Local and State laws while working in buildings designated by the Allen County Sheriff.
Responsibility:
The Court Security Officer makes choices and takes action when implementing policies for the prevention and investigation of crimes. Errors in decisions are revealed through adverse effects on subsequent operations.
Personal Work Relationships:
The Court Security Officer maintains frequent contact with other County employees, Court Personnel, Police Officers, and members of the Public, when maintaining the security of designated buildings.
Working Conditions:
The Court Security Officer works in all designated buildings, in and out of a courtroom setting with frequent walking and standing and some sitting. Frequent proofreading and very frequent bending, attention to detail, monitoring of equipment, detailed inspection and exposure to dangerous equipment is required. The Court Security Officer is frequently exposed to extreme temperatures and noise and some noxious odors and fumes. Frequent contact is made with potentially violent, aggressive and/or intoxicated detainees and the public.

7:30 am – 4:30 pm; shifts vary; 40 hours/week; some mandatory overtime required
